Sandra Joyce Hinson, born on September 2, 1939, in Beverly, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, at her daughter Patricia Decote’s home in Aubrey, Texas. She was 84.
Sandra was married to Curtis Ladon Hinson for 63 years, sharing a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication. As a military spouse, she traveled the world alongside Curt, stationed in Japan and Germany during their younger years. They later settled in Newport News, Virginia, raising their family. After their children had grown, they seized the opportunity to return to Curt’s childhood home in and around Dothan, Alabama, where they spent more than 32 fulfilling years.
In her final years, Sandra faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. Patricia Decote, her daughter, provided loving care, ensuring that Sandra’s last moments were filled with comfort. Sandra is survived by her three children: Robert Wayne Hinson (Susan) of Gloucester, Virginia, Gregory Scott Hinson (Lisa) of Freeport, Florida, and Patricia Ann Decote (Eliezer) of Aubrey, Texas. She will be lovingly remembered by eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, as well as her sister, Barbara Richardson of Dothan, Alabama and brother, Allen Wyer of Tewksbury, Massachusetts. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Ladon Hinson of Newton, Alabama, her son, Donald Curtis Hinson of Newport News, VA, and her brother Rudolph Charles Wyer of Billerica, Massachusetts.
A public viewing will be held at Ward Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, February 2nd, from 6 PM to 8 PM. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Doug Seale, will take place at the same location on Saturday, February 3rd, at 9 AM. The family will receive guests after the service at Ward Wilson Funeral Home, where hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.
