Mrs. Sara Helen Strickland Phillips, age 89, a lifelong resident of Cottonwood, died unexpectedly Tuesday November 24, 2015 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday November 28, 2015 at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Stan Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.
The family will be receiving friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Cottonwood United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 338, Cottonwood, Al. 36320.
Mrs. Phillips was born on October 23, 1926 in Houston County the daughter of Johnnie Bell Strickland and Annie Bell Calloway Strickland. She was a member of the Cottonwood United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cody Phillips; a son, Pat Phillips; grandson, Cory Ammons; great-granddaughter, Cassy Brooks; a sister, Vivian Ferguson.
Survivors include: 4 daughters, Diane Varnum (Larry), Cottonwood; Janice Brooks (Denny), Cottonwood; Peggy Miller (Harley), Montgomery; Barbara Ammons (Danny), Cottonwood; a son, Johnny Phillips (Terry), Griffin, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Martha Phillips, Ashford; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a special friend, Sue Hughes, Cottonwood; several nieces & nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Freddie Miller, John Phillips, Clint Brooks, Adam Brooks, Brent Phillips and Ryan Ammons.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
