Sara M. Lewis, 92, passed away on February 21, 2023 to be with our Lord and to join her beloved husband, Robert, after a long and beautiful life.

Born and raised in Ashford, she met the love of her life while still in high school. Their love was somewhat clandestine for a time since she was a student and he was her teacher. That was circumvented once he became principal and they were allowed to publicly express their relationship. They married in June of 1948 and lived happily until he died in 2017.

Avid travelers, Sara and Robert went to most of the United States including Alaska and twice to Hawaii as well as Mexico, Canada and Germany. She loved to talk about their travels as well as their two boys and just about anything else. She was a strong willed woman that was admired, respected and loved always.

Sara is survived by her two sons Robert Jr. and Barry Douglas of Dothan; five grandchildren’ eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; cousins; and other relatives.

Ward Wilson Funeral Home will take care of arrangements and reunite her next to Robert.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, February 24, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
