OZARK…Mrs. Shirley Cheshire Cantley, a resident of Ozark, died Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2024, at the home of her daughter in the Old Tabernacle Community, Coffee County, near Ariton. She was 82.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2024, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glenwood.org/donate, Glendwood, Inc., Autism & Behavior Health Services, 150 Glenwood Lane, Birmingham, Alabama 35242.
Mrs. Cantley, daughter of the late Luther B. Cheshire and Doris Evelyn Enfinger Cheshire, was a native of Ozark. She was a 1959 Graduate of Carroll High School and attended the University of Alabama. Mrs. Cantley was very instrumental in the planning and development of the Carroll High Class of 1959 Reunions. In earlier years, she was employed with Northwest Airlines. Mrs. Cantley lived in various locations in the United States, while her husband worked with Chiquita Banana Company, before returning to Ozark in 1995. Upon her return, she was the co-owner and operator of Family Traditions in downtown Ozark. Shirley had a love for cooking and baking, which was her passion only second to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Cantley and her son, James Steven Cantley.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Wendy Brasher and her husband, Larry, Ariton; sister, Charlotte Cheshire Jaroslawski and her husband, Dennis, Dothan; brother, Dr. Bryan Cheshire and his wife, Dr. Sadie Cheshire, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Daniel Brasher and wife, Molly, Phillip Brasher, Leah Brasher Campbell and husband, Justin, Caleb Brasher, and Hannah Brasher; three great-grandchildren, Paxton Fuller Brasher, Bella Kay Campbell, and Eilee Tyler Campbell; niece, Karen Anthony and nephew, Johnny Jaroslawski; several cousins also survive.
