Mrs. Shirley Dorchies of Chancellor, Alabama passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 15, 2021. She was 86 and lived enough for several lifetimes during that span.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at El Bethel Baptist Church in Chancellor with Reverend David Hingson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until time of service.
Mrs. Shirley was born on March 27, 1935 in Belgium to the late Fredrick and Rachel Dobbeleir. She is preceded by her one-of-a-kind husband, Raymond, to whom she was married for more than 60 years.
Moving to the United States of America at the age of 20, Shirley was just starting out on a life that could only be defined as the “American Dream.” She and Ray would later retire to Chancellor and enjoyed everything Alabama had to offer for two decades. Her cooking was the stuff of legend with Thanksgiving dinners that would become the root of many happy memories. Her wickedly funny sense of humor combined with a razor-sharp wit was a cornerstone of who Shirley was. Shirley was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church in Chancellor and was happiest when she was singing with the choir.
Mrs. Shirley leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly, including her three sons; Alex Dorchies (Joy), Keene, New Hampshire, Robert Dorchies (Susan), Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Vincent Dorchies (Patricia), Coventry, Rhode Island; one daughter, Beatrice McCarty (Dan), Chancellor; nine grandchildren: Kathryn Dorchies, Gregory Dorchies, Elizabeth Dorchies, Quinn Dorchies, Trevor Dorchies, Emily Dorchies, Sarah Dorchies, Rachel McCarty, Sarah McCarty; and two dogs who she loved very much: Snooky and Lucy.
