Our sweet mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, best friend, dog-lover and consummate hostess Susan Stephens Creel passed away yesterday, December 9, 2015 surrounded by the love and prayers of her family and the gracious mercy of God.
Susan is survived by her husband, Doug, children, Jake (Jordan) and Katie, all of Dothan; brothers Mark, Bill (Allison) and Bo (Barbara) Stephens; Mother-in-law Doris Creel, sister-in-law Beverly Tally (Bill) and all their children as well as eight spoiled, lovingly-rescued dogs, a cause she avidly supported. Susan is preceded in death by her father and mother, Col. And Mrs. Robert Stephens, of Ozark, Alabama and father-in-law Mr. Raymond Creel of Dothan, Alabama.
Originally from Ozark, Susan lived in Dothan after marrying Doug, her husband of 33 years, in 1982. Recently, they have spent as much time as possible with family and friends at the beach, on the boat. With an exceptional energy, she and Doug raised two beautiful children and many dogs. She served as one of the first female coaches for boys’ and girls’ sports teams. She was so much more than a soccer mom, watching, coaching and cheering Jake and Katie and their friends on the baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts and many golf courses. As all that love her will know, Susan welcomed everyone, without exception, into her heart and home with a grace and generosity of spirit that marked her life.
We will daily remember her genuine warmth, her vibrant energy, her love for life, family and friends. We invite family and loved ones to celebrate and remember her with us at noon on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Dothan at 205 Holly Lane. As would have most certainly been her hope and wish, donations in Susan’s honor may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society or the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
