Mrs. Sybil M. Sketoe of Westville, FL passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019. She was 96 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church in Westville, FL with Rev. Bobby Warren, Rev. Randy Torrance and Sister Barbara Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday night from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Sketoe was born in Holmes Co., FL on March 26, 1923 to the late Ewell Quincey and Nora Reba Hicks Matthews. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister to her family, truly a gracious friend to many. After her retirement from the American Bank, she enjoyed sewing and attending the Geneva Senior Citizen’s center. She will be remembered for her active involvement in New Hope Baptist church, New Hope Homemakers and the WMU. She believed in staying active and helping others. Mrs. Sybil was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 50 years.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Sketoe, four sisters, Sabie Holland Herring, Gladys Cox, Mildred Brazel and Jo Moore, and one brother, Wyatt Matthews.
Mrs. Sybil is survived by two sons, James “Jim” Sketoe (Christina) of Charleston, SC and Layvonne Sketoe (Brail) of Westville,FL, one sister, Mary Brazile of Westville, FL, seven grandchildren, Roderick Sketoe (Mandy) and Julie S. Sketoe, all of Charleston, SC, Scott Sketoe (Joy) of Ponce de Leon, FL, Mark Sketoe of Gadsden, AL, Todd Sketoe of Cleveland, OH, Jason Strickland (Michelle)of Westville, FL and Willie Strickland (Sissy) of Bonifay, FL, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson, Jamison (on the way).
