Obituary:  Mrs. Teresa Klinkhardt Gallaher

Mrs. Teresa Klinkhardt Gallaher of Hartford passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at Hartford Health Care.  She was 95.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at St. Columba Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Dane and Monsignor Patrick Gallagher officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Interment will follow at a later date at Little Prairie Cemetery in Caruthersville, MO.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.

Mrs. Gallaher was born November 21, 1925 in DuQuoin, IL to the late Theo and Louisa Hehner Klinkhardt.  Teresa attended Nashville, IL, McCarty, MO, Sacred Heart Catholic School in Caruthersville, MO, Caruthersville High School, and graduated from Braggadocio High School at the age of 16. She resided in Hayti, MO on the family farm with her parents for many years.  She married the love of her life, James Corbin Gallaher, Jr. who went by the nickname “Toby” on February 4, 1945 at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO.  She and Toby were stationed at various bases during his military career. Teresa was employed with the Premiscot Soil and Water Conservation District from 1965 until 1988 and also worked part time at the Extension Office and the Farm Bureau Office.  In addition, she organized the Southwest Hayti Extension Club and was a member of the Pemiscot Health Systems Auxillary from 1974-1999. She was the last surviving original member of the Catholic Ladies Society, organized in 1947. Teresa and Toby became charter members of the Pemiscot County Historical Society, where she served as Editor.  One of her greatest joys was calling the meeting to organize the Braggadocio High School Reunion, served on the committee from 1984 until 2000, and attended every reunion until 2016.

In addition to her parents, her husband, James “Toby” Gallaher, Jr.; sister, Louise Smalley; brothers: Joe and Walter Klinkhardt; and a grandson, Patrick Gallaher all preceded her in death.

She leaves one son, Marty Gallaher and his wife Diane Underwood Gallaher, Hartford, AL; and grandson, August Gallaher, Silver Hill, AL to cherish her memory.
