Mrs. Vassie “Mymoma” Pauline Lewis Benefield, age 85, of Dothan passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Born September 21, 1931 to the late Charlie and Beulah Green Lewis, Vassie was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and laughing with family and friends, but her love and joy came from being surrounded by her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Elton Benefield; her brother, Wade Lewis, two brother-in-laws, Irby Benefield, and Young Harrington and three sister-in-laws, Opal Lewis, Ruth Benefield, and Louverne Harrington.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Smoak (Fletcher) of Dothan, Kathy Fowler (Roger) of Dothan; sister, Linda Freeman (Don) of Headland; brothers, Thaxton Lewis of Dothan, and Rex Lewis (Peggy) of Pinkard; sister-in-laws, Glenda Lewis of Dothan, and Ruth Benefield of Dothan; grandchildren, Tona Williams, Melodye Maxwell; step grandchildren, Amber Taylor and Stacy Boucher; great-grandchildren, Mia Ellen Williams, Bronner Gauge Maxwell; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 12 PM, Monday, March 6, 2017 from Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Dr. Johnny Fain and Reverend Bob Gross officiating. The family will receive friends from 1030 AM till service time.
Family would like to say a special thank you to her caregivers, Taugnia Jones, Nancy Maxwell, and Kendrid Hospice.
