Mrs. Vaunita Carol King Somerset Hawkins of Geneva, Alabama passed away at her home Thursday, October 29, 2015.  She was 60.


 


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Geneva with Rev. Hughvon King and Rev. Charles King officiating.  Burial will follow in the High Falls Assembly of God Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.


 


Carol, the youngest child of the late George L. and Myrtie Gilley King, was born July 15, 1955 in Hartford, Alabama.  She attended Geneva County High School and later received her GED.  Carol was employed at Child’s Jewelers, Clinton Mills and Van Heusen during her working career.  Carol was of the Church of God faith.


 


In addition to her parents, her grandparents: J.T. and Ida Brown King, George and Mary Jane Strauder Gilley; four brothers: George Carter King, George Harold King, Tommy Joe King and Bobby Shirley Sr.; as well as three nephews: Christopher Howell, Charlie Miller, Jr., and Bobby Shirley, Jr. all preceded her in death.


 


Survivors include her husband, Durward Hawkins; two sons: James Jason Somerset and Daniel Shane Somerset, all of Geneva; one daughter, Christie Somerset of Albany, GA; two brothers: Rev. Hughvon King (Barbara) of Hartford and Rev. Charles King of Slocomb; two sisters: Mable Miller (Charlie) and Hilda Dykes (Jerry)  all of Westville, FL; four grandchildren: Courtney, Kaitlyn, Dustin and Bobby Somerset, Addison Ray and Blayze Huiras; father of her children, James Somerset; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.


 


The family would like to say thank you to her caregiver, Kim Green, and Gentiva Hospice for the special care that was given to Carol.
