Mrs. Verna Ellen Zorn Smith of Hartford, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Elba Nursing Home& Rehabilitation Facility on Saturday, May 17, 2014, after celebrating her 79th birthday on April 14th.  She had suffered from the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's disease since 2009.  Verna was ready to meet her Lord and Savior and was ready to receive her Heavenly Rewards as well as reuniting with her husband of 58 years, Malcolm Smith, who passed away on July 3 2013.   A time to honor Verna's earthly life and a celebration of her home going will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, for all family and friends who wish to attend. Visitation will be held at the Hartford Baptist Church fellowship hall from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service which will be held immediately following at 2 p.m. at Hartford Baptist Church in Hartford, Alabama. Burial will follow at Hartford City Cemetery. Verna's body will remain at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford until visitation time at the church. Flowers will be accepted and donations may be made in her memory to Hartford Baptist Church.   Verna is survived by two children, her daughter and son in law, Sherry Marie Smith Harrison and Glenn David Harrison, Hartford, Alabama; one son and daughter in law, Chad Benjamin and Kim Smith, LaGrange, Georgia; three grandsons: Evan Benjamin Smith, Dylan Caleb Smith and Aidan Cole Smith, Samson, Alabama; one step grandson, Logan Gosdin LaGrange, Georgia; one sister in law, Jean Zorn Parrish, Hartford, Alabama and her sister and brother in law, Sara and Travis Turner, Macon, Georgia, and a very special caregiver, Cathy Howell, Slocomb, Alabama.  In addition to her husband, Malcolm Smith, she was preceded in death several years ago by her father and mother, Benjamin Nicklas (Bud) Zorn and Erma Wilson Zorn and her only sibling, Benjamin Harold (Ben) Zorn .  Bottoms-Garden Chapel of Hartford, (334) 588-3250, is in charge of arrangements.
