ROCKY HEAD COMMUNITY…Mrs. Virginia Colleen Danner Sammons, a resident of the Rocky Head Community, near Ariton, died Saturday afternoon, September 21, 2024, at her home. She was 92.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 23, 2024, in Bethel Assembly of God Church with Reverend Jeff Downing and Reverend Dave Walsh officiating. Graveside services, with Mr. Greg McGhee officiating, will follow in the Ariton Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the church.
Mrs. Sammons, daughter of the late Roy B. Danner and Vera Brown Danner, was a native of Barbour County and was a 1951 Graduate of Ariton High School. Following graduation, she worked with Van Heusen in Ozark until her marriage to Earl Sammons in 1959. Mrs. Sammons became a military wife and lived in various locations in the United States and overseas before retiring to Ariton. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Sammons was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Earl D. Sammons (TSgt., United States Air Force, Retired), son, Duane Sammons, brother, Eugene Danner, and a nephew, Anthony Danner.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Nita McGhee (Grant) and Mona Sullivan (Tony), all of Ariton; brother, Charles Danner (JoAnn), Abbeville; five grandsons, Joey McGhee (Jessica), Justin McGhee, Tyler Sullivan (Lindsey), Josh Sullivan (Makayla), and Kendle Sullivan (Dalice); two great-grandsons, Dixon McGhee and Rhett Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Gerlad Sammons, Ozark, Spurgeon Sammons (Chris), Jasper, Texas; sister-in-law, Faye Tucker, Dothan; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Community Hospice of Dale Medical Center, especially Kathy Johnson, Jennifer Taylor, and Catherine McLendon, and her caregiver, Rachel Senn, for their loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Sammons and her family during this time.
