Virginia Redmond Granberry, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on December 22, 1932, in Rehobeth, Alabama, Virginia’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family.
Virginia’s journey began as a cherished daughter of John Walter Redmond and Myrtis Turner Redmond of Rehobeth, where she also completed her education, graduating from Rehobeth High School.
In marriage, Virginia found a loving partnership with W. Howard Granberry. Together, they navigated the waters of life for 40 years until his passing in 1993. Their love was a foundation upon which a beautiful family was built, including their children Kevin, Mike and his wife Laura, Debra and her husband David, and Dena and her husband Mark. Virginia’s role as a mother was one of her greatest joys, and she embraced every moment with her children.
Virginia’s legacy continued to flourish through her grandchildren, Kristi, Chris and his wife Kim, Candi, Regan and her husband Josh, and Katlin. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Pierce, Kate, Claire, Cason, Chloe, and Rob, and great-great-grandchildren, Mills and Mary Pat. Virginia also leaves behind to cherish her memory her sisters, Judy Archey and JoAnn Miller and her husband Roger. Each of them carried a piece of her heart and spirit. Virginia was preceded in death by her great-grandchild Farris English, her brother Turner Redmon, and her sister Mary Nell Wright.
A woman of faith, Virginia was a devoted member of the Westgate Church of Christ. Her church family was a source of strength and fellowship, and she cherished the community she found there. Virginia’s love extended beyond her family and church, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Virginia’s interests were a reflection of her love for life and those around her. She was an avid shopper, always on the lookout for the perfect gift to brighten someone’s day. Her family came first and foremost, and she expressed her love through the art of cooking. Virginia’s country cooking, from pot roast to chicken and dumplings, and her baked goods were legendary among family and friends.
Those who knew Virginia would describe her as loving, generous, and selfless. She gave of herself without expecting anything in return, and her presence was a comfort to many. Virginia’s selflessness was not just a trait but a way of life, as she consistently put the needs of others before her own.
Virginia’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her unwavering love, boundless generosity, and selfless nature will be remembered as the hallmarks of her remarkable life.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, July 7, 2024 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 2 PM until 3 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.
