COLUMBIA…Mrs. Wanda Powell Rogers, a resident of the Hunter’s Crossroads Community, near Columbia (formerly of Ozark), died early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2024, at the home of her daughter. She was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 14, 2024, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vann Cooley officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rogers, daughter of the late Remur Powell and Lucille Cox Powell, was a native of Apalachicola, Florida. She formerly lived in Bainbridge and Albany, Georgia, Ozark, before moving to Columbia in 2021. Mrs. Rogers was employed as a caretaker for many years in various homes in the Wiregrass. She was a member of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church and was a former member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ozark. One of Mrs. Rogers greatest loves was her animals, especially Lilly and Sonny. She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Smith.
Surviving relatives include five daughters, Teresa Payne (David), Ozark, Becky Smith, Columbia, Tammy Vinson, Ashford, Dawn Summerlin, Webb, and Michelle Cook, Albany, Georgia; a sister, Carol Rice, Anniston; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jonathan Brown, Jason Kirkley, Ben Smith, Phillip Pearson, Derrick Cook, and Danny Carr. Honorary pallbearer will be Jackie Rogers.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Tina and Molly, for their loving care and kindness shown to her and her family during this time.
