Wilma Barnett "Tillie" Johnson, 98, a longtime resident of Dothan, died May 12, 2015 at Flowers Hospital, where she was ministered to by a very professional and compassionate staff, along with her devoted internist Dr. Diana Mancuso. The family is appreciative of these very special caretakers.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Gross officiating and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36303.
Wilma was born December 31, 1916 in Ashford, Alabama. After graduating from Ashford High School, she earned an education degree from Troy State Teachers' College and then taught school in Ashford for a number of years. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dothan where she regularly attended until prevented by her deteriorating health.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Fred Byrd Johnson, founder and owner of Johnson Funeral Home in Dothan; parents, Lela Taylor Barnett and William Print Barnett; and brother Ray Barnett, all of Dothan and formerly Panama City, FL.
She is survived by two children, devoted son Fred Barnett Johnson (Kathy) of Dothan, with whom she lived for the last 15 years, and daughter Pamela Johnson Beville (Doug) of Greenville, AL, and formerly Mobile; three grandchildren, Natalie Beville Stanley (David) of Montgomery, Laney Beville Hayes (Walker) of Franklin, TN, and Keyal Aronson of Birmingham; nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
