Celia Jane Stokes Russell, a resident of Cottonwood, Alabama gained her wings Monday, January 6, 2020 at her home following an extended illness. She was 67.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5PM Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Memphis Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Tate officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 4PM to 5PM at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry, Memphis Baptist Church, 4595 Eddins Road, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
Ms. Celia was born December 24, 1952 to the late Billy and Juanita Culpepper Stokes. After graduating from Rehobeth High School she began her path to a 24-year teaching career, earning her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama and Tulane University. She later received her Alternate Teachers Certificate from Louisiana State University. She devoted her life to working with children making a positive impact in their daily lives. Ms. Celia was a member of Memphis Baptist Church
She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Cleve Stokes.
Survivors include her two daughters Amy Cox and Kelley Fleming along with 5 grandchildren, Hartley Cox, Jaycob Cox, Maggy James, Laura Cox, and Ethan Fleming.
A special thanks to all the care givers for showing their love for our mother Sherrie Dismukes, JoAnn Dawsey, Lynn Sawyer and the Day Springs Hospice team.
