Ms. Glenda Winslett Wood, age 83, of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020.
Born October 15, 1936 in Coleman, Texas to the late James Milton Winslett and Bessie Wileman Winslett, Glenda graduated from Coleman High as Valedictorian of her class. After living in Bermuda for a short period of time, she moved to Pensacola in the late 50’s early 60’s, where she met her husband. They were married in 1962 in Milton, FL and traveled with the Navy for many years. It was during this time while stationed in California, they adopted Elaine and Evan. They moved to Dothan in 1971 and Glenda has lived here since then. She was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she taught 10th grade girls Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served in the church where she was needed. She held many jobs during the years but her main job was to taking care of her children at home. She worked the last 10 years before retirement at Wallace College in the Continuing Education Department. After retiring in early 2000, she went home to enjoy the rest of her life. She became ill in 2016 and moved to Signature Healthcare in Graceville and lived there until she was called home by the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian DePrang and her brothers, Tom Winslett, Kenneth Winslett, and Curtis Winslett.
She is survived by her daughter, Grace Elaine Wood Covington (Scott); her son, James “Evan” Wood (Rachel); her grandchildren, Cortney Lynn Miller (Jordan), Jacob Cory Hayes, James “Owen” Wood, and Samuel “Mills” Wood; her great-grandson, Jacob Hayes; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday August 24, 2020 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Monday, August 24, 2020 prior to the service.
