Ms. Martha Jean Simmons of Geneva, Alabama, passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at her home. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Crooms and Rev. Teddy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Geneva with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 5 until 7 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Geneva First Assembly of God 300 W. Maple Ave. Geneva, Alabama 36340,
Ms. Simmons was born on February 15, 1934 in Hartford, Alabama to the late George Washington and Mattie Elvira Smith Hatcher. She was a loving and devoted mother. She was an avid gardener, especially loved working in her yards. She loved the Lord, enjoyed singing gospel music and was a faithful member of the Geneva First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Doug Simmons, granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Booth, one great- granddaughter, Abigail Elizabeth Grider, one brother, Lehmon Hatcher, four sisters, Blondell Benefield, Juanita Palmer, Jeanette Morris and Esther Cadenhead.
She is survived by her three children, Diane B. Jones of Geneva, AL; Steve Benefield (Lonnie) of Hartford, AL and Debbie J. Ingalls (Darrell Chesson) of Geneva, AL;
grandchildren, Steve Benefield, Jr (Summer) of Ashford, AL; Jennifer Ward (Jerry) of Slocomb, AL; Brandy Adams of Enterprise, AL; Jason Booth of Slocomb, AL; Heath Stewart (Casey) of Auburn, AL; Heather Stewart Grider (Smitty) of Dothan, AL; Chad Adams of Geneva, AL and Raven Urquhart of Hartford, AL; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Lauren, and Michah Benefield, Madison and Gracie Ward, Darcy and Sparrow Booth, Hannah and Cole Adams, Shelby and Will Grider, Savannah, Jack and Saylor Stewart.
