DOTHAN…Ms. Nelle Hamm Ward, 86, a resident of Dothan, formerly of Abbeville, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 28, 2021, at Westside Terrace in Dothan.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2021, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church, in Headland, conducted by Reverend Guy Causey. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. Masking and social distancing will be observed by those attending.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2506 State Highway 134, East, Headland, AL 36345.
Ms. Ward was born March 10, 1934, in Headland, to the late Mose Hamm and Quillie Snellgrove Hamm. She lived in Abbeville, previously and was a member of Old Zion Baptist Church. Ms. Nelle loved growing and arranging flowers, and making custom draperies for others. But her ability to lift the spirits of the elderly was her greatest gift. She served Henry County Nursing Home as Activity Director for many years, where she brought love and laughter to countless people.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brady Allen Bullock; brothers Buddy, Leonard, Robert and Edsel Hamm; and sisters Agnes Watson and Edna Gifford. Surviving sisters are Martha Klemptner and Catherine Fennell, Dothan; and Sandra Johnson, Valdosta, GA.
Ms. Nelle is survived by her well-loved and devoted children Janice and Roger Griffin, Abbeville; Sheila & Ricky Cobb, Dothan; Steve & Donna Ward, Todd & Candace Ward, Abbeville. She leaves with many special memories her grandchildren: Kristi Bullock (Jon), Kerri Cobb (Bryan Roberts), Jason Cory (Tiffany), Justin Cory (Faith), Stephanie Volf (Blake), Stephen Ward, Dawn Ward and Jordan Ward; and great-grandchildren Ella Bullock, Ashleigh & Addison Taylor, Cooper Roberts, Jordan & Abigail Cory; Devin Bill, Noah Breaux and Lily Volf.
The family has the deepest gratitude to those at Westside Terrace and Somerset Assisted Living who returned her love and respect while caring for her.
