Renda Myers Houston, 79, long-time resident of Dothan went to her heavenly home on November 14, 2023, surrounded by her family and her loving community of caregivers and friends at Westside Terrace.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, November 18, 2023, one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be gathered at the home of her daughter, Teresa in Dothan.

Renda was a woman of God and the matriarch of her extended family. She was an amazing, dedicated mother and grandmother who loved her children and grandchildren, family, and friends with an intensity that left an impression on their lives and souls. She showed her love through her compassion, her actions, her advice (solicited and unsolicited), and through food.  She loved soft and she loved hard.  If she was proud of you, you knew it.  If you needed to do better, you knew that too. She instilled in her family the importance of supporting one another and being together, especially at Christmas. She could lure even the most reluctant teen to a family gathering with the promise of the best fried fish you ever ate, her legendary hushpuppies, or her Peanutty Cream Cheese Cake (that deservedly won the National Peanut Festival cooking contest). During the CB radio era, her handle was “Lady Love” which is the best two-word description of her life and legacy.

Renda lived out loud. Her excitement over small wins was contagious.  Whether she reeled in a hard-fought fish, won on a slot machine, got a Bingo at the Shriner’s Club, or watched her beloved Auburn Tigers score; she danced and hollered! She was the queen of celebrating and appreciating all that life gave her through her infectious laugh, beautiful smile, and mischievous blue eyes. She was simply the essence of Proverbs 31:25-26: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; and she laughs without fear of the future. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

Renda loved to travel and spend time with her closest friends over the years (Charles and Rose Strawder, Carolyn White, Mauretta Danford, Kathy Staton, and Eunice Boyd). She and this crew never passed by a slot machine without at least dropping a few pennies.

Renda also had an amazing sense of style.  She was the epitome of glamour on a budget and her sense of style will live on in the memory of her family and friends. Renda also understood the importance of community.  She was a member of The Eastern Star, Red Hats Society, American Cancer Society of Dothan, and a past President of the Altrusa Club.

Over the years Renda worked in various retail stores and financial institutions. She closed out her career in finance working 25 years as the Assistant Manager at Fieldcrest Apartments.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Erie and Dorenda Myers, parents Billy Myers and Mary Meadows Young, brother Gary Young, and her precious fur baby “Sugar”.

Renda is survived by her loving daughters Teresa Payne-Ingram (LaDonna) and Darlene Houston Phillips (Jeff), five grandsons Brad Ingram, Ryan Ingram (Vanessa), Keith Ingram (Albert), Garrit Willis and Mason Willis, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, brothers Douglas Myers (Donna), Billy Myers, Carl Young (Tracy), sister Jakeeli Kersey (Rick), and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who all love her.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Ingram, Ryan Ingram, Keith Ingram , Garrit Willis, Mason Willis, Jeff Phillips and Mike Carroll.
