Jesus called Thelma Morris Van Dyke to her eternal home on April18, 2013, in El Paso, Texas. Born in the family's log cabin in Cottonwood, Alabama, on October 7, 1913, to Martha Reeves Morris and Alonzo Calhoun Morris, she is now reunited with her parents, sisters and brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood City Cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends from 4 PM until 6 PM at the funeral home Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
An incredibly loving, devoted wife and mother, she worked tirelessly to create warm, nurturing homes for her family in California, Texas, and Alabama. She was a skilled seamstress who also enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and singing. She will be remembered by friends and family as a caring woman with a great sense of humor whose heart reached out to others in time of need.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Welsh, Charlie, Claude, and Hubert Morris, and sisters, Eunice Watson, Dolly Morris, and Mavis Morris.
To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her children: Carol Beene and husband Don of El Paso; Roy Van Dyke of Portland, Oregon; Bruce Van Dyke and wife Peggy of El Paso; and Gary Van Dyke and wife, Sheryl, of Georgetown, Texas. Her grandchildren are Rachael, Justin, Kendra, Elizabeth, Amaris, Alyse, and James Aaron and great grandchildren are Victor, Ava Grace, and Caleb. We love you, Mother, and will always miss you.
