MSG John Foy Crawford (United States Army, Retired) of Slocomb passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday, March 13, 2023, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Etheridge officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.


John was born in Moody Hospital on August 25, 1948, to the late Foy Olean Crawford and Lucille Skipper Crawford. John joined the United States Army in 1972, proudly serving for twenty-one years until his retirement. His service would take him to Vietnam, where he received medals such as the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and many others.


John enjoyed spending his free time fishing, watching Alabama Football, spending time with family, grilling with family and friends, and traveling. He will be remembered for his kind words, love, and care that would shine through and will be missed by so many.


In addition to his parents, Foy and Lucille Crawford, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jerry Smith.


Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shari Bolin Crawford; daughters, Sherrie Crawford Segers (Lonnie) and Amy Crawford Crooks (Glenn); son, James Crawford; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Crawford, Travis Minton, Kassie Crooks (Richard), Monica Hall (Jason), Meagan Sanders, Valley Segers, John Segers, Landon Segers; great-grandchildren, Addison, Kyson, Cadeance, JP, Ellis, Ty, and Harper; brother, Richard Crawford (Stephanie); sisters, Felicia Smith, Patricia Strickland (Larry), Rhonda Hodges (John) and Mary Sue Sewell; and several other family members.
