MSGT Gary William Adamson (USMC Ret.), 68, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 15, 2016. Devoted deeply to his country, his wife, and family; Gary existed as an extraordinary example of strength, dignity, and loyalty. His dedication to all that held a place in his heart was both inspiring and admired by all who knew him.
Born on February 20, 1947 in Nova Scotia, Canada, Gary emigrated to the United States when he was 17 and joined the United States Marine Corps and honorably served the People of the United States for 21 years as an infantry squad leader in 1st Battalion 9th Marines Vietnam, Watch Commander in several foreign countries, Chief Investigator in Barstow CA, Special Enforcement Chief, Operations Chief and Chief of Port Security in Seattle WA. Gary received numerous commendations for his dedicated service including Vietnam Gallantry Cross Palm and Frame, Meritorious Mast, Humanitarian Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with two Stars and Purple Heart.
Gary became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1977. In 1986 after he retired from the Marine Corps, he continued to serve on the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff and Lake Hemet Police Ranger Division for a combined ten years.
Gary has lived in Samson/Opp for 17 years with his wife of 27 years Ronda Adamson where he had committed to providing a solid foundation for their family and faith.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia and Gerald Adamson. He is survived by his wife Ronda; sister Heather Roussi; children Carol and husband Ken Sprague; Deborah and husband Shawn Nicks; Brian and wife Lisa Adamson; Victoria Wright; Donnavan and husband Jimmy Lawrence; James Barfield; and 11 grandchildren.
