John C. O’Donnell, MSGT USAF Ret., of Auburn, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 12, 2021. He was 92.


Graveside services will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery for family at 11 AM, Friday, July 16, 2021 with Dr. Jeff Ross officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


John joined the United States Air Force in 1948 and proudly served his country for 21 years until his retirement as Master Sergeant in 1968. During his years in the Air Force, John worked in the fire department in a number of locations as a Non-Commissioned Officer stateside at Glascow AFB Montana, Eglin AFB Florida, Tyndall AFB Florida, McGuire AFB New Jersey, Gunter AFB Alabama, and overseas at assignments in Wiesbaden Air Base Germany, Deols Crash Station Chatearoux France, and a number of other assignments in Guam, The Marshall Islands, Portugel, Spain, and England. He was involved in atomic testing in Operation Greenhouse in Enewetak in 1951. After his retirement from the Air Force, John was employed by Hudson Thompson in Montgomery, Alabama, later Scrivner, Inc., for a period of 26 years until 1994 when he retired as their Transportation and Security Manager.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Christine Fike O’Donnell; father, Edward E. O’Donnell; mother, Rosa (Hall) O’Donnell; sister, Florence Olean (O’Donnell) Lemay; and granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Fike.


He is survived by his son, Ryan O. O’Donnell (Shannon), Auburn, Alabama and stepson, Lynn M. Fike (Rita), Dothan, Alabama; grandchildren, William Brennan O’Donnell and Winton Brady O’Donnell; and numerous nieces and nephews, and was greatly loved by his family.
