Myrtle G. Cook, 95, a longtime resident of Ozark, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in Tallahassee, FL.
A Celebration of her life will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with her son-in-law, Rev. Robert H. McDonald, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 p.m. prior to service time on Saturday.
Mrs. Cook was born February 13, 1922 in Ozark, Alabama to Grady and Eva Gamble where she resided most all of her life. She has a long ancestry in Alabama. In 1813, her great-great grandfather, John Gamble was the first settler to cross the Chattahoochee River and settle land in south Alabama, now the Henry County area.
Mrs. Cook was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and later Southside Baptist Church in Ozark. She spent the last 10 years in Tallahassee, Florida where she attended Celebration Baptist Church.
She was a faithful Christian lady who established a spiritual heritage with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her spunky spirit which she had until the end. Mrs. Cook was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was loved and cherished by her family. She will be greatly missed by all.
Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Eva Gamble, her husband, R. F. Cook, a daughter, Diane Andrews and a grandson, Ronald David Andrews.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy McDonald (Robert) of Chelsea, AL, a son, Freddy Cook (Karen) of McKinney, Texas and a son-in-law, Mickey Andrews of Tallahassee, FL; eight grandchildren, Shannon Stallworth (David), Kevin McDonald (Corrine), Jennifer Beasley (Chad), Ken McDonald (Amy), Brad Cook (Genesee), Amanda Pack (Sam), Kelli Cook Smith (Ryan); eighteen great-grandchildren.
