Nanette “Nan” Walters Byrd, a resident of Dothan, AL passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. She was 91.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Mill Creek Congregational Cemetery in Laurel, MS with Rev. Tim Bristow officiating. The family will receive friends at Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Love in Action Ministries, 279 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.
Nan was born January 18, 1931 in Butler, Georgia to the late James Walters and Stella Bankston Walters. She was a graduate of Sandersville High School in Mississippi. Nan was employed with The Mobile Press from 1961 until her retirement in 1996. In 1996, she moved to Dothan to be closer to her family. Nan loved to garden; she enjoyed being outside rather than inside. She enjoyed getting dressed up, doing her makeup and having her nails painted. Nan was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and played the piano.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Byrd.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Bristow; her son-in-law, Tim Bristow; her grandchildren, Lori Beth (Stephen) Evans and Shelby Bristow; her great granddaughter, Tallulah Evans; her sister, Ondene Johnson; and her niece, Tyra (Winston) Pirtle.
