On Monday, September 15, 2014 Nathaniel Edwards passed away at Flowers Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services with military honors will be 10am Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Newton Community Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Moses Coleman officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nathaniel was born May 1, 1943 to the late Fester and Carlis Edwards of Newton, AL. He was a member of St. Mark AME Church in Newton, AL. He was retired from Alabama Power Company after 36 years of service.

Nathaniel is survived by Kate Knight Edwards, his wife of 44 years and their four children, Angelia (Rev. David) Gosha of Dothan, AL, Vikki Edwards of Daleville, AL, Anthony Edwards of Orlando, FL and Nathaniel Edwards Jr. of Lynn Haven, FL; two nieces, Claralyn Edwards and Bobby Sue Edwards of Pinkard, AL; four grandchildren, Alexandria, Jasmine, Ashley, and Dylan; he is also survived by Ida Hollis (mother-in-law), Bobby Knight (brother-in-law), James (Dorothy) Knight (brother-in-law) all of Wicksburg, AL, Lanell Rivers (sister-in-law) of Dothan, AL and Denise Corbitt (sister-in-law) of Lynn Haven, FL.
