HEADLAND….Neal Dixon Owens, a resident of Headland, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at his home. He was 77.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 24, 2017 in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Brother Logan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Newton City Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M Monday at the mortuary.
Mr. Owens, son of the late Ralph Hasteleen Owens and Katie Bell Green Owens, was a native of Barbour County. He was reared in Pike County and also Napier Field and was graduate of Midland City High School. Mr. Owens formerly lived in the Blackwood Community near Headland and Tumbleton before moving to Headland in 2008. He was retired from Pemco at Napier Field as an aircraft mechanic and served his country in the Army National Guard in the Headland Unit. Mr. Owens was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, Brannon Stand Road, Dothan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Faison Owens; a step-son, Randall Eugene Aplin; brother, Ralph Herman Owens; three sisters, Margaret Trawick, Katie Mae Barr and June McDonald.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mildred Owens, Headland; daughter, Pamela Dawn Boyd (Bill), Vestavia Hills; two step-daughters, Darlene Morana (Al), Tampa, FL and Amanda Mock (Ken), Samson; a step-son, Jeffery Aplin (Penny), Headland; a sister, Victoria Stinson, Dothan; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother-in-law, Clara Marie Freeman Roberts, Headland.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Keith Duke, Nathan Aplin, Terry Roberts, Todd McCart, Mark Walden, Scott Lindsey, Josh Dykes and Rodney Carter.
