Mr. Neil S. Dodson of Headland and formerly of Enterprise passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Dogwood Manor Assisted Living in Abbeville. He was 89.
The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise on Thursday, May 22 from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Funeral services will be at 3:00 Thursday, May 22 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2506 State Highway 134 East, Headland. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the Church Thursday beginning at 2:00 and continuing until service time.

Mr. Dodson was born in 1925 in Pond Creek, Oklahoma. He answered his country’s call to military service in 1944, enlisting in the Army Air Corp and beginning his basic training at Shepherd Field, Texas. He earned his wings at Turner Field in Albany, GA. After meeting and marrying Effie Barrett Dodson in 1947, they returned to Lawton, Oklahoma where he was a fixed wing flight instructor. He helped move the Army Aviation School to Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1953 and stayed in Enterprise until he retired from Civil Service in 1982. Effie died after 52 years of marriage.
In 2002, Neil met and married Corene, and they moved to Headland in 2009. They were faithful members of Bethlehem Baptist Church near Headland and of the Temple Builders Sunday School Class led by Joe Watson.
Neil was preceded in death by his first wife, Effie Barrett Dodson and his daughter, Janet L. Aucoin.
Survivors include his wife Corene Dodson of Headland; 2 sons: Larry G. Dodson (Patty) of San Antonio, Texas and Rev. Neil B. Dodson (Sharon) of Headland; 1 son-in-law, Richard Aucoin of New Iberia, Louisiana; and 2 grandchildren: Keith and Carrie.
