Nell Rebecca Battle, affectionately known as Nell, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, at her home in Hampton, GA. Born on December 30, 1926, in Cherokee Bluff, AL, Nell’s life was a tapestry of love, devotion, and unwavering faith that touched all who knew her. She was 97 years old.

Nell’s early years in Cherokee Bluff shaped the strong, loving woman she would become. She moved to Dothan, AL, at a young age, where she later met and married the love of her life. Together, they built a family that would become her greatest joy. Nell was the best mother ever, always putting her family first. She was a loving homemaker who nurtured her family with the kind of care and affection that made her home a sanctuary for all.

Her family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her son, Dennis Battle; her daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Battle Bolds; her grandchildren, Joe (Andrea) Bolds, Stephanie (Rick) Bolds Harris, Joey Battle, and Tim Battle; her great-grandchildren, Ryan (Brianna) Bolds, Miley Bolds, Chase Harris, Emersyn Harris, Jordan Harris (Jonathan) Seib, Brody Battle, Taylor Battle, and Tyler Battle; and her great-great-grandchildren, Emmett Bolds, Ellie Jean Bolds, Phoenix Seib, and Pailyn Seib. Nell also leaves behind her loving sister, Patsy Godfrey, along with several cherished nieces and nephews.

Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Huie Godfrey and Lillie Mae Penuel Godfrey; her husband, Sanford Battle; her brothers, Charles Godfrey and Theo Godfrey; her nephews, Little Charles Godfrey and Don Godfrey; and her sister, Peggy Spires Beaver.

The family cabin on Lake Eufaula was a haven of happiness and laughter for Nell and her family. It was here that many of the family’s most cherished memories were made, surrounded by nature, love, and the laughter of children. Nell was the backbone of her family, guiding them with her wisdom, kindness, and a generosity of spirit that knew no bounds.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Nell was a devoted member of St. Columba Catholic Church, where she found great comfort and community. Her faith-filled life was an inspiration to her family and all who knew her, and her loving nature was a reflection of her deep spiritual beliefs.

Those who knew Nell would describe her as loving and generous. She had a heart that embraced everyone, and her warmth was felt by anyone who had the pleasure of her company. Nell’s life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds.

As we say goodbye to Nell Rebecca Battle, we celebrate a well-lived life and a legacy of love that will continue to flourish in the hearts of her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories and memories that her loved ones will continue to share. Nell’s life was a gift to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Nell’s passing is not an end but a transition to a place of eternal peace. We take solace in the knowledge that she lived her life with grace and that she has now found rest. As we mourn her loss, we also rejoice in the knowledge that her spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of those she loved.

Farewell, dear Nell, your journey here is complete, but your influence will forever be felt. May you rest in peace, knowing that your love will continue to echo through generations.
