Nell Worthington O’Quinn


Nell Worthington O’Quinn, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015. She was 95.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with Rev. Jack Thomason and Rev. Paul Edenfield officiating.  Burial will follow in the Geneva City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 Thursday prior to service time.  


Mrs. O’Quinn was  born March 4, 1920 in Esto, Florida and later moved to Geneva where she raised her family. She was employed with Van Heusen Shirt Factory for 26 years and also worked in the Mulkey Elementary School lunchroom in Geneva for several years. After moving to Dothan to be near her family, she dedicated her life to helping senior citizens at the Dorothy Quick Center, named after her first cousin. She was a devout Christian who spent her life witnessing to others and was also a member of the Evangel Assembly of God Church. Mrs. O’Quinn was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.


She is preceded in death by her late husband, Willie Ray Worthington and a stillborn infant.


She is survived by six children, Harold Worthington (Lucille), Charles Worthington (Roma), Barbara Worthington Palmer (Bill), Arlon “Tom” Worthington (Debbie), Mary Worthington Peacock (Hugh) and Selda Worthington Rowe (Rickey); 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many many very special nieces and nephews and friends as well as all of our church families.


A heartfelt thanks goes out to her precious sitters, Lee Ann Baxter and Priscilla Henderson and the caring staff of Gentiva Hospice for their loving care of Mrs. O’Quinn.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Morris Worthington, Greg Worthington, Evan Milner, Joshua Johns, Jody Worthington, George Worthington, Shawn Rowe and Micah Dettmar.
