Nellie Crews Spears of Samson, AL passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. She was 98 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Samson First Methodist Church with Rev. Dustin Wise and Dr. Hayden Childs officiating. Burial will follow in the Travelers Rest Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Spears to the First Methodist Church of Samson, 204 West Main Street, Samson, AL 36477 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Nellie was born in Geneva County, AL on July 17, 1926, to the late David F. and Minnie Lee Crews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bruce Spears, Sr.; one son, John David Spears; two sisters, Edna Crews Holley, and Dorothy Ezell Holley.

She is survived by two sons, Roy B. “Moose” Spears, Jr. (Sheila), and James E. “Eddie” Spears (Rhonda); one sister, Betty Crews Early; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
