Nicole Andrea “Niki” Johnson, a resident of Geneva, AL passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at her residence. She was 37 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Novia Brackin officiating. There will be a private viewing for the family from 11:00-12:00. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Niki was born May 12, 1980 in the Bronx, New York. She was adopted by two very loving parents. She lived the early part of her life in Melville, NY. She graduated from Walt Whitman High School and later was certified as a Firefighter and Critical Care Paramedic. She was employed as a ER Technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY. She also worked as a critical care paramedic at New York Presbyterian Hospital, she was pulling a shift in NYPH on that infamous day when terrorists flew jet airliners into the Twin Towers in Manhattan, she answered the call for all volunteer Fighters to report to their stations so that they could be deployed to Ground Zero to aid in the search for survivors and treat the wounded. Niki spent three weeks at ground zero serving her country and her fellow New Yorkers. Little did she know that act of selflessness would some day be what would call her home to be with the lord, Niki suffered a career ending injury after an intoxicated man slammed into the rear of and ambulance that she was driving while transporting a patient to the hospital. After she was forced to give up her career in the field she moved to Florida where She used her tremendous skills and knowledge employed with the South Walton Fire District as an E-911 dispatcher. It was while working at South Walton that she met what was to become her best friend in the whole wide world, Terry Johnson was a Firefighter/Paramedic working for North Walton County Fire Rescue. Apparently showing up on a Harley Davidson dressed in black leather was just what Niki needed, or maybe vice versa because it wasn’t long before they were joined at the hip and would set off on adventures like showing up at her parent’s house after riding 550 miles on the Harley only for it to be 28 degrees when they arrived at 0330 hours in the morning, that is the spirit that she had in her. And she rode back home days later a little warmer but in the rain.
Niki fought for everyone, sometimes I believe she fought harder for others than she did for herself. she fought for Gina with her brain tumor, forcing herself out of bed while on chemo to make it down for the brain tumor walk in charlotte, she fought for Libby Claire, twice I know they both are looking down upon the rest of us smiling, she fought for Brandy right up till she couldn’t fight anymore Pookie, you can quit fighting now you have done enough, let us take it from here.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Johnson; her children Andy, Lucian, and cookie, parents, William and Michell Davis; her brother, Jeffrey and his wife Amy and their son, Landon.
