Nora Joyce was born in Ozark, AL, on November 21, 1931, to the late Dee Carr McCrory and William Webster McCrory. The family moved to Dothan when Nora Joyce was a little girl, and she remained a proud resident here for the rest of her life.
She earned a degree in education from Troy State Teachers College (now Troy University) in 1953. She loved being a teacher and taught several subjects, including Physical Education and Art. Nora Joyce held a place in her heart for special-needs children and worked for many years in special education. She loved students and continued to work as a substitute teacher as she raised six active children of her own.
Nora Joyce was a lifelong member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church and, later, Greystone United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ruth Sunday school class.
Nora Joyce loved flowers and gardening, old movies and westerns, cats and kittens, and anything of interest to her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered lovingly by her family and friends as someone who shined happy and positive influence on all those around her. Most importantly of all, she lived her life as a devout Christian, remaining loyal to her faith through every trial and challenge. We rejoice knowing Nora Joyce is now with our Creator.
Nora Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles C. McNair; her parents, Dee Carr McCrory and William Webster McCrory; and her brother, William Webster McCrory, Jr. She is survived by her six children: Charles C. McNair, Jr (Adela), Bogotá, Colombia; Malcolm Clayton McNair, Dothan; Robin Dale McNair, Dothan; Carole McNair Cobb, Dothan; Melody McNair Dochoff (Seine), Elmhurst, IL; and Marella McNair Collins (Bert), Dothan.
