Norman Edgar Searcy
Norman Edgar Searcy, age 78 of Ozark passed away early Wednesday morning, March 18, 2020 at his home under the care of Dale Community Hospice.
In lieu of services, memorialization will be by cremation, provided by Family First Funeral Care.
Born March 31, 1941 to the late Louie Edgar and Ruby Ellen Bowman Searcy, Norman lived in Dale County all of his life. Being born and raised on a farm taught him the value of hard work. As a teenager, Norman ran the projector at the former Ariton Theatre, which was at the time owned by his father. Soon after graduation from high school, he joined the Alabama National Guard, where he began his career as a heavy equipment mechanic. For many years he enjoyed this type of work and it suited him well because after he retired, he then began his second career. His “retirement” consisted of owning and driving log trucks, which he enjoyed doing very much. Even after he was unable to drive himself anymore, he hired himself a driver and picked up scrap metal. Hard work was all he ever really knew. Hard-working, ambitious but also a Godly and spiritual man, he was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Norman was also preceded in death by a sister, Marie Cumbie. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean Searcy of Ariton; four sons, Wayne Allen Searcy and his partner, David of Santa Rosa, CA, Jeffrey Welton Searcy of Ariton, Randy Lee Searcy of Ariton and Jason Edgard Searcy and his wife, Sheila of Ozark. He is also survived by his former wife, Laura Dawley Toms of Ariton; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
