Norman Hershel Capshaw of Geneva, Ala went home to be with the Lord on May 10, 2023, at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be held May 12, 2023 at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home, Geneva at 11:00 AM, Visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. The Rev. Ricky Hall officiating with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in the Providence Community Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Vonzene Hand-Capshaw; special nephew Kym Arnold (Amy), sisters Lucile Capshaw, JoAnn Spencer, and Cynthia Post, brother Jimmy Capshaw (Kitty), his step children Steve Hand (Connie), Sherri Vernon (Dave), Julie Hobbs (George) Ron Thomas (Lynn) and several step grandchildren, and great grands, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Claudine Starrett, Julia Ivey, and Patsy Skipper, his stepdaughter, Sabrina Jones Thomas (Alan).
He attended Geneva High School, class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division. He and his nephew have owned and operated Magnolia Market, Magnolia Mini Mart and the Piggly Wiggly in East Brewton, Al for many years.
Hershel was a kind man who treated everyone with dignity and respect. He was very appreciative of all his employees. He was selfless and unconditional with his love to family and friends alike.
Hershel was a major sports fan, especially enjoying football and his love for the Geneva Panthers and Auburn Tigers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Maple Avenue Baptist Church, 1009 W Maple Ave, Geneva, Al 36340.
