Nyrl Byrd Vanlandingham of Geneva passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017, after an extended illness. She was 88. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Geneva with Dr. Mike Shirah, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Maple Avenue Baptist Church, 1009 W. Maple Ave., Geneva, AL 36340.
Mrs. Vanlandingham was born in Geneva County on April 19, 1929, to the late William and Althea Taylor Byrd. Nyrl was a longtime and founding member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church. She graduated from Geneva County High School, Class of 1946. Nyrl worked for thirty-seven years at Center Drugs in Geneva and also Gilstrap Drug Company for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Vanlandingham.
She is survived by her son, Byrd Vanlandingham (Marsha) of Dothan; daughter, Jane Baker (Terry) of Geneva; three grandsons, Nolan Baker (Michelle) of Ponce de Leon, FL, Ryan Baker (Angie) of Northport, AL and Alex Vanlandingham (Shannon) of Knoxville, TN; three granddaughters, Amy Owens (Todd) of Walland, TN, Amanda Vanlandingham Suhy (Jason) of Johnson City, TN, and Arin Vanlandingham of New Tazewell, TN; five great-grandchildren, Bella, Aubree, and Emma Baker of Ponce de Leon, Landon Owens of Walland, TN, and Dylan Baker of Northport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
