OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK  ~ 334‑774‑5348


Mrs. Geraldine “Jerry” Carroll Chaves, 80, of Ozark, died Monday evening, October 22, 2012, at her home.


Funeral services will be graveside at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, October 27, 2012, in Blue Springs Word of Truth Cemetery, formerly Blue Springs Assembly of God, with Reverend Kenneth Earles and  Mary Alice Cox officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Friday evening.


Mrs. Chaves was born March 11, 1932 in Clio, Alabama to the late John Carroll and Clara Cox Carroll. A successful business woman, Mrs. Chaves was the owner of the first Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio in the Wiregrass area located at Ft. Rucker’s east gate in Ozark in the 1960’s.  She later moved the business to the city square in downtown Ozark and expanded to include one of the most successful beauty salons in the area, Jerry’s Beauty Salon.  At one time, her prominence as a business woman allowed her to expand her business locations to Daleville and Troy.  Mrs. Chaves was a resident of Ozark for over 50 years.  She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Carroll of Clio.


Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Chaves Sumrall and husband Mike Sumrall of Glendale, Arizona;


two sisters, Jeanette Bradberry of Ozark and Mildred Linzey of Troy;


one brother, Ray Carroll of Avon Park, Florida;


one sister-in-law, Mary Carroll of Clio. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
