OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK  ~  334‑774‑5348


 ­­­­­­­­­­­­­CW-4 Richard G. “Tom” Thompson, Retired U. S. Army, 75, of Dothan, formerly of Ozark, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at his home following a brave battle with ALS.  Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Steve King and Chaplain Captain Dwayne Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M.  CW-4 Thompson was born March 6, 1938 in Chehalis, Washington to the late Harry Andrew Thompson and Neta Isabell Murphy Thompson. He served proudly in the United States Army for thirty five years and one day which included two tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea, and two tours in Germany, retiring as CW-4 in 1991.   Mr. Thompson served at Fort Rucker as Command Pilot for eight years for three Commanding Generals. He was an Honor Graduate of the NCO Academy and received two Bronze Stars, one Silver Star, the Legion of Merritt Award, and many other awards. Following his retirement, he worked with Holman Transportation System in Ozark for nine years as Chief Pilot.  Survivors include his wife, Tommie Dowling Thompson of Dothan;  one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Harry Keplinger of Gardendale, Alabama; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Thompson, Jr. and Kim of Jacksonville, Florida, Daniel and Sue Perron of Lynn Haven, Florida; six grandchildren, Alyssa and Emma Thompson, Ryan Perron, David Hix, Karl and Kari Keplinger.  Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Perron, Richard Thompson, Jr., David Glaze, Jack Thorne, John Moss, and Jonathan Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Ozark Baptist Church.Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ozark Baptist Church, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or to the ALSA Alabama Chapter, P.
