Mr. John Derek Ashford, 42, of Newton, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at his home.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 P. M. Saturday, January 13, 2018, from Crossroads Baptist Church in Dothan with Pastor Doug MacCormack officiating. Interment will follow in Newton City Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations directing. The family will receive friends Saturday in the church from 11:30 A.M. until service time.
Mr. Ashford was born March 20, 1975 in Mobile, Alabama. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Dothan. He attended McInnis School in Montgomery and Vivian B. Adams School in Ozark. John was an avid Auburn football and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He was a Boy Scout and took part in the Special Olympics for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Lynn Ashford; grandparents, Charles Patrick Tharp, Earl and Ruby Ashford.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Charlotte and Stanley Carter of Newton; his grandmother, Irene M. Tharp of Newton; sisters and brother, Jennifer Tharpe (Kirby) of Echo; Kathy Sillings (Damon) of Graceville, Florida, Richard Carter (Lisa) of Culpepper, Virginia; Sarah Carter of Newton; nieces and nephews, Mason Tharpe, Jordan Tharpe, Whitt Tharpe, Hayden Sillings, Garrett Sillings, Reanna Carter, Sydney Carter, and Madelyn Carter; staff and friends of Milton Road Residence in Montgomery, staff and friends of McInnis School in Montgomery, and his special friend, Amy Outlaw of Ozark. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
