Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Roger Stone and Reverend Danny Bynum officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Joe was born in the Mabson Community and lived most of his life in Ozark. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. His unit was the first to occupy Japan after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. After his discharge from the army Joe returned to Ozark and worked for the first telephone company in Ozark, installing many of the first telephone lines in Ozark. He later was employed in Civil Service at Ft. Rucker in the Signal Corps where he retired after 30 years of service. Mr. Carroll continued his military service to his country by serving in the Alabama National Guard until retirement. Mr. Joseph Carroll was a member of Southside Baptist Church and previously of Ozark Baptist Church. He and Rachel traveled around the country after his retirement and visited Alaska several times. On this day God has received a carpenter and an electrician; an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and worked hard all his life to care for the needs and the education of his children. He will be greatly missed by his family and the community. He was preceded in death by his parents L. P. and Della Judah Carroll, brothers, Robert and Paul Carroll, and sister, Zina Stubbs. Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years and the love of his life, Rachel Brogden Carroll. What better gift can a father give to his children than to love their mother with his whole heart. Joe was also survived by a daughter, Janet Keown (Gary) of Ozark, AL and a son, Joseph G. Carroll, Jr. (Pam) of Headland, AL. He leaves to cherish his memory four grandchildren, Jason and his wife Jennifer Carroll of Columbus, IN, Jennifer and her husband Ryan Roessel of Ozark, AL, Jeff and his wife Laine Keown of Clarksville, TN, and Lauren and her husband Chris Watts of Andalusia, AL. and eight great-grandchildren.
