OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS OF OZARK   ~   334‑774‑5348


Mr. Monty Scales, 78, of Ozark, died early Tuesday morning, June 2, 2015, in Dale Medical Center.


A memorial service for Mr. Scales will be held at 10:00 A. M. Thursday, June 4, 2015, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Danny Bynum officiating.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.    The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Thursday from 9:00 A. M. until service time.


Mr. Scales was born July 11, 1936 in Parkdale, Arkansas to the late Harold and Alline Barker Scales.  He attended school in Parkdale, Wilmont High School, and Arkansas State Teachers College.  Mr. Scales worked with DynCorp at Fort Rucker for thirty-seven years and retired to spend time with his family.  Monty was an avid sportsman. He loved Bowling, baseball, basketball and football; but his greatest love was golf.  Monty was the kindest, gentlest, most loving person ever.  He was completely and totally devoted to his family.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of his life.  He gave selflessly of himself to his family and his friends.  His best times were on his front porch surrounded by his family.  He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and attended for many, many years.  Mr. Scales was the best Poppa ever; he was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.


Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Gilley Scales of Ozark; his children, Keith and Lisa Thomley, Melanie Loff, and Chris Thomley; his grandchildren, Brett Thomley, Haley-Lynn Loff, Jacob Loff, Dalton Thomley, Becky and Brian Knowles; his great-grandchildren, Mason Thomley, Haiden Knowles, and Dillan Knowles; one sister, Krin Byrd; niece, Nancy (Charlie) Reinecke; nephew, John (Marty) Kessinger; and his faithful companion, his cat, Leo.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 902 South Hwy 123, Ozark, Alabama  36360.
