Mr. Norman Joseph Shlam, Sr. 85, of Ozark, died Saturday, December 30, 2017.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, January 4, 2017, from Ozark First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Greg Doss officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday in the church from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M.
Mr. Shlam was born February 18, 1932 in Pennsauken, New Jersey to the late Joseph Oscar Shlam and Esther Mary Groff Shlam. He joined the United States Army at a young age and served for twenty-one years during the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. Following his military career, he worked with Civil Service at Fort Rucker for twenty years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jo Leatherwood Shlam; one grandson, Anthony Joseph Miller; and one sister, Esther Mary Rudolph.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Casey Miller; one son and daughter-in-law, Norman Jr. and Angie Childree Shlam; four grandchildren, Jana (Ricky) Johnson, Joshua (Jennifer Barkett) Shlam, Chelsea (JC) Hyde, and Trevor Shlam; five great grandchildren, KayLee Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Jaysea Hyde, Delaney Hyde, and Kaghan Burkett; two sisters-in-law, Carrie (Tom) Norton, Myrtle (Preston) Faulkner. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ozark First Assembly of God Church—Missions, 170 Country Club Drive, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
