Mr. Sherman Dale Lowery, 77, of Ozark, died Friday, December 8, 2017, at his home following an extended illness surrounded by his family.


Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Eric Fuller and Reverend Roger Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends Tuesday in Ozark Baptist Church from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M.


Mr. Lowery was born January 7, 1940 in Conway, Missouri to the late Sherman and Opal Green Lowery. Mr. Lowery grew up farming in Missouri, Indiana and Illinois, changing school twenty-seven times.  He worked in Moline, Illinois in an engine foundry and served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1961. Mr. Lowery met and married Shirley Smith in 1960. He worked in Germany as an Army Engineer until 1961. Dale coached Ladies Softball, the Ozark Colts, in the 1970’s. He was a member of Ozark Masonic Lodge 908, and a member of the Ozark City Council for two terms 1996-2004.  Dale operated Standard Oil in Ozark, Texaco, Union 76 on Hwy 231, Lowery's Exxon, and December 1, 1995 he opened Lowery's Automotive on South Union Avenue in Ozark which is still in operation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Moore; two brothers, Earnie Moore and Paul David Letterman.


Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Shirley Smith Lowery of Ozark; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Jackie Lowery, Gene Lowery, Ricky and Loretta Lowery, Justin and Maghen Lowery, Mitch and Ashley Lowery all of Ozark; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bonnie Duntz of Kansas, Betty and Gary Sheets of Lebanon, Missouri, Vicki and Bruce Bossi of Springfield, Missouri; one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Rose Letterman of Stratford, Missouri.  Twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.


The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Connie Chandler, Kathy Johnson and Community Hospice.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Attn.: Tribute Department, St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105; or to U.A.B. Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1824  6th  Street South, Birmingham, Alabama 35205.
