Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL
Mr. William Oliver “Sonny” Hughes, 77, of Ozark, died Friday evening, January 20, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Monday, January 23, 2017, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend James Bell and Reverend Timothy Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark from 3:00 P. M. until 5:00 P. M. Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Hughes was born January 16, 1940 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Floyd Hughes and Georgia Mae Snell Hughes. He served in the Alabama Army National Guard including one year of active duty. Mr. Hughes worked with Dominy-Mitchell Chevrolet in Ozark for fifteen years prior to becoming a full-time farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Eugene “Gener” Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Chancy Hughes of Ozark; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Mona Hughes of Albany, Georgia, Lee and Carin Hughes of Ozark, Lynn and Brooke Hughes of Ozark; eight grandchildren, Jana Hughes, Jacob Hughes, Jordan Hughes, Clay Hughes, Carlee Hughes, Lynnsi Hughes, Caroline Hughes, and Blair Hughes; one brother and sister-in-law, James Kenneth and June Hughes of Ozark.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Youth Center, 1124 County Road 11, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
