OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK, AL ~ 334‑774‑5348
Mrs. Barbara Lynn Smith Thompson, 82, of Huntsville, Alabama, formerly of Ozark, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Hix officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 1:00 P. M. until service time.
Born in Barbour County, Alabama, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Lillian Smith of the Poplar Springs community near Eufaula. “Bunny”, as she was affectionately known in her youth, graduated from Eufaula High School and attended Auburn University. She lived most of her adult life in Ozark, where she was an exemplary wife, mother, daughter and homemaker, giving attentive and affectionate care to her family, including her mother who lived in Ozark for many years. In 2008, she moved to Huntsville and enjoyed the opportunity to live near her daughter and family.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of Ozark Baptist Church, and maintained active participation in Pea River Electric Cooperative events in support of her husband’s career. In addition, she was an interested supporter of the Historic Chattahoochee Commission. She will be remembered by her family and friends for a sweet, sunny disposition and loving attitude. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2000 by her husband of 49 years, Robert D. (Bob) Thompson of Ozark; and her brother, Robert A. Smith of Eufaula in 2012.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Greg Abercrombie of Huntsville; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Lisa Thompson of Ozark; five grandchildren, Matthew Abercrombie and wife, Mindy, Emily A. Davidson and husband, Ben, Natalie T. Owens and husband, Keith, William Abercrombie, and Lorilyn Thompson, along with five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions made to Ozark Baptist Church, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360; or the Ozark-Dale County Public Library, 416 James Street, Ozark, Alabama 36360, will be appreciated.
