            Mrs. Carol Anne McCarter Caffey, 75 years of age died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in Dale Medical Center following a short illness.


            Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M.  Friday, August 29, 2014 at Ozark Church of Christ with Ministers Todd Stork, Glen Van Zandt, and Dr. Leon Estep officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery,  Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from  4:00  P.M. until 6:00 P.M.


She was born August 23, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama to Leonard Clyde and Mildred Eloise Jackson McCarter. Carol grew up in Mobile, Alabama where she graduated from Murphy High School in 1957. She attended Springhill College where she earned her nursing degree. Mrs. Caffey married the love of her life Dr. Taylor D. Caffey, Sr. on December 27, 1960.


            Carol moved to Ozark with her husband in 1964 to assist him in starting his medical practice. She immediately became involved in the community and has loved “everything Ozark” since.  She made life long friends in Ozark and considered Ozark her home. Mrs. Caffey was a member of the Literary Club, the Woman’s Guild, a Brownie leader, acted as the sponser for the 20th Century Federated Young Women’s Club for over 13 years, and was the chairman of the Band Parents Association. She played an instrumental role in the renovation of the Flowers School auditorium and served as the President of the Flowers Center for the Performing Arts. Mrs. Caffey was also active and enjoyed volunteering in many of the Flowers Center productions. She served as chairman of the CATS Board which is the sole supporter of the Flowers Center of the Performing Arts.  She was employed as a Registered Nurse for 21 years and, along with her husband, volunteered her time at Camp Seale Harris for more than 25 years.   


She served on the Board of the Auburn University  School of Nursing  for four years. 


Mrs. Caffey was a faithful member of the Ozark Church of Christ for over 50 years. She brought her children up in the Church and served as a Bible class teacher for many years.  Her church family was an important part of her life and she supported the church’s activities and members in so many ways.


Mrs. Caffey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.  The love for her family was apparent to everyone that knew her.  She was thrilled to be the grandmother of 12 grandchildren and was affectionately known as Pud to them.  She is preceded in death by her father. 


She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Taylor D. Caffey, Ozark.


Two Daughters and their Husbands:  Kathleen Caffey Maund and her husband Charles Marion Maund;  Kristy Caffey Kelly and her husband Charles Lavon Kelly, Jr.


Two Sons and their wives:  Taylor Dunn Caffey, Jr. and his wife Julie Thorpe Caffey;  Patrick McCarter Caffey and his wife Kristie Wilkinson Caffey.


Her Mother:  Mildred Eloise Jackson McCarter along with one brother James William McCarter.


Grandchildren:  Adam Charles Maund;  McKenzie Taylor Caffey;  Madeleine Carol Maund;  Madison Michelle Caffey;  Caroline Kristine Kelly:  Harrison Taylor Caffey;  Kathleen Claire Kelly;  Jackson Victor Caffey;  Patrick McCarter Caffey, II;  Charli Grace Kelly;  Cameron William Caffey;  and Colin Hooper Caffey.
