OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK

Mrs. Frances Rector Steagall, a resident of Ozark, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The funeral will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Ozark at 2:00 P. M. on Monday, April 22, 2013, with Reverend Dr. Christian Eckert, Reverend Meghan Kelley, and Reverend Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Family members will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Frances Steagall was born on October 20, 1921 to Fred and Frances Rector and was raised in Chilhowie, Virginia. She graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1943. She taught at Virginia Intermonth in Bristol, Virginia until she became employed by the Red Cross during World War II. Her Red Cross duties took her to Ashford General Hospital in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia (now known as The Greenbriar Resort). After the war she accepted a job teaching typing and accounting at Auburn University where she met her future husband, Henry B. Steagall, II. They were married in 1947 and spent the next 52 years together. They had many wonderful experiences together and traveled extensively until his death in 1999. Frances was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark and served many years as a youth Sunday School teacher and played piano for many church activities. She also was a member of the John Wesley Sunday School class. She enjoyed volunteering at the Ozark-Dale County Library and was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is preceded in death by her kind and nurturing parents, her loving husband and a fine young grandson, Brantly Steagall. She is survived by her children Henry B. Steagall III (Frances); Susan Steagall Brown (Clarence); Fred Rector Steagall (Patti); six grandchildren, Amy Steagall Luck, Jamison Brown, Maren Brown Mansell, Spencer Steagall, Scott Steagall and Mary-Frances Steagall; two great-grandchildren, Lacy Luck and Adam Luck; a niece, Mary Gibson (Tom); two nephews, Jim Solomon (Kay) and Tom Atkeson (Beverly). rances was a caring, loving and gentle person of faith who was the epitome of the words mother and friend. She was a person of great strength and had a selfless heart who always put others first. Her spirit of love and kindness will be missed by many and carried in our hearts forever.
