Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL
“This establishment does not own a crematory.”
Mrs. Grace Gene Andrews (Mother), 87, of Ozark, passed from this earth to her heavenly home, Saturday, December 23, 2017, at 6:45 A.M.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P. M. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry Lambert and Reverend Neal Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday in the church from 1:00 P. M. until service time.
Grace was born on the “bear farm” on the west side of what is now Lake Tholocco. She was born as Grace Gene Andrews on February 18, 1930. She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Totsie Andrews; her husband of fifty-eight years, Charles C. Andrews, Jr.; and a younger sister, Alice Gwendelyn Andrews Machen.
At the age of 18 at the Perry Recreation Center Grace found Charles C. Andrews “Jr” who danced his way into her heart forever. After their marriage a son was born---Walter Charles Andrews “Charlie”. Jr passed away in April of 2006.
She was an active and dedicated member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Ozark where she served as pianist for over sixty years.
Grace (Mother) did all things well---never satisfied till a task, be it shelling butterbeans or an official government report, was completed as it was supposed to be completed.
She worked many years at Camp Rucker and then Fort Rucker earning many awards and citations for her effort to maintain the quality of service Army Aviation requires.
She excelled at her tireless efforts to help others, no matter of their position or station in life. Her Mother taught her well. She never expected nor sought credit for good works.
Grace truly truly loved GOD, HIS Church, His people and Her own family. These units were all intertwined by chains that could never be broken.
Grace (Mother) had been excited about seeing all her friends and family someday who had already passed over. She knew more in heaven than here on earth. Her last words to me were “will you take me home” I said “yes”. God had more in mind.
Survivors include her son, Walter Charles “Charlie” Andrews; two nieces, Karen Etheridge and Tina Machen; and one great nephew, Cylas Borden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 2926 Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
