OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME OF OZARK

Mrs. Katherine “Kay” Whitlock McGarvey, 89, of Ozark, died Thursday morning, January 10, 2013, in Westside Terrace in Dothan.


Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 12, 2013, from the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Dr. Christian E. Eckert, Reverend Meghan Kelley and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodland Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 12:00 Noon until service time. From now until time for the visitation at the church and following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. McGarvey.


Mrs. McGarvey was born May 2, 1923 in Terre Haute Indiana to the late Walter and Lena Walters Whitlock.  Kay, or Nana, as she was affectionately known, was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark and the John Wesley Sunday School Class.  She was fiercely independent, playing bridge several times a week, hosting parties in her home and traveling with bridge partners.  She was a Silver Life Master and an ACBL Club Owner.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Major (U.S. Army Retired) Hershel Gerald “Mac” McGarvey; one son, Scott McGarvey; and one grandson, Birke Higham.


Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kay Lynn and Alex Warrick of Ozark;


one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lynn McGarvey of Birmingham;


grandchildren, Todd McGarvey, Brad McGarvey, Ryan McGarvey, Suzanne McGarvey German and Katie Higham;


great grandchildren, Lauren, Kayla, Jordan, Sophia and Isabelle McGarvey.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, Alabama  36360.
